In a praiseworthy effort to distill some of the most important lessons of entrepreneurship, Kevin D. Johnson, president of multimillion-dollar company Johnson Media Inc. and a serial entrepreneur for several years, shares the essential beliefs, characteristics, and habits of elite entrepreneurs.

Through the conviction of his own personal experiences, which include a life-changing visit to Harvard Business School, and the compelling stories of modern-day business tycoons, Johnson transforms an oftentimes complex topic into a lucid and accessible one.

John Eaves ’84 – Speakers of the House

John Eaves Speakers of the HouseIt is quite fitting that John Eaves chose to title his book about the success journeys of Morehouse men, Speakers of the House. Most people who are familiar with the College probably know that alumni and students fondly refer to Morehouse simply as The House a term that embodies our collective feeling of pride and sense of familial bond to the special place that was our academic home during our undergraduate education.

Most people familiar with Morehouse also know that if there is one thing that distinguishes Morehouse men, it is our penchant to speak to investigate and think about important ideas, and then clearly and persuasively make known our views on issues of significance to ourselves and others in the places where we live, work, play, study, worship, and raise our families. But what many people may not know is that one definition of speaker of the house, a designation that dates back to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1789, is elect of the elect.

This book chronicles the correspondence between the famous writer and Dr. Benjamin Mays, the legendary president of Morehouse College.

“Dr. Mays wrote a letter to Margaret Mitchell. Gone with the Windhad just premiered in 1939, so he asked Margaret Mitchell, would you donate one scholarship?” Johnson said.

Mitchell did, and all these years later, the Mitchell legacy lives on at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

“Her nephew, Eugene Mitchell, continues her charity and gave $5 million to Morehouse. So for the next 100 years, there will be Margaret Mitchell scholars marching out of the Morehouse School of Medicine,” said Johnson. (taken from 11NewsAlive).
