A New Year’s Message from Robert Davidson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Morehouse College

Dear Morehouse Family:

Robert C. Davidson, Jr., '67 Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Morehouse College

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Morehouse College

For many of us the culmination of the calendar year signals a time for rest – letting go of most of the day-to-day demands; rejuvenation — sharing good food, conversation and activities with friends and family; and reflection – planning and preparation for the coming year.

And rather than make New Year’s resolutions, I like to think of it as a time of recommitment. Recommitting ourselves to the dreams, activities, and values we deem essential to our wellbeing and our well doing.

For Morehouse College, the year-end also signals the beginning of a new era in the life of the College. As we return this January, Interim President Willis B. Sheftall, ’64, will provide leadership as we prepare to welcome our new president. On January 28, the 11th president of Morehouse, Dr. John Silvanous Wilson, Jr., ’79, will officially take office.

I will take some creative license here as I quote a Chinese proverb that states,

“In leadership, behind every man [and woman] there are always other able men [and/or women].”

Working collaboratively for a common cause or mission is at the heart of any great personal or professional achievement, and certainly it is no different when we contemplate the work we all do in service to Morehouse. No one person can do it alone.

The College is very fortunate to have many passionate and dedicated stakeholders – like you  – you invest their time, talents and resources in the future viability of the College.  It is in this time of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation that I ask each of you to recommit to the mission of Morehouse and continue your efforts to recruit great students, expand our circle of supporters, and personally increase your giving.

And, yes, continue to be a champion for Morehouse. We all want the same thing – to make it possible for many more young men – like Robert M. Franklin, ’75 and John Silvanous Wilson, Jr,. ’79 – to have the opportunity to attend Morehouse and graduate prepared to claim their own place in the world.

Thank you for your commitment, loyalty and love for Morehouse College. I wish and your family a blessed and prosperous New Year.

Best Regards,

Robert C. Davidson, Jr.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees
